The Mets select third baseman Brett Baty out of Lake Travis High School in Texas. Already 19 years old it’s believed that his age is what caused him to slip to the Mets at pick No. 12.
In his senior year of high school, Baty batted .615 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs. He was named the Gatorade Texas Baseball Player of the Year and was committed to play college ball at the University of Texas.

Baty makes his professional debut for the Gulf Coast League Mets. He was promoted after just five games, batting .350/.480.650 with a home run and eight RBI in 20 at-bats.

Baty would then head to Kingsport in the Appalachian league and spend the majority of his first minor league season there. Twenty of Baty’s 35 hits went for extra bases, including six home runs. He’d play there for 42 games before earning a late-season promotion to Brooklyn.
He made his A-ball debut on August 30, 2019. Baty appeared in four games for the Cyclones, getting two hits in 10 at-bats.
In his first minor league season Baty’s final numbers were .234/.368.452 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs. He also had 16 doubles.

Due to Covid-19, Baty and the rest of the minor leagues lost a season of baseball. He finally made his return to the field in 2021, debuting as a Brooklyn Cyclone.
Baty crushed it in Brooklyn. With a .911 OPS in 51 games, the Mets had no choice but to promote him to Double-A Binghamton at 21 years old.

Three years younger than the average player in Double-A, Baty would hit but not find the same success he had in Brooklyn. Across his first 40 games he still batted .272/.364/.424 putting his OPS down to .787.

Baty would get his first taste of postseason action. Baty became a member of the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. He demolished the ball in his first week, hitting .500 over the teams first seven games. He only hit one home run in 25 contests but he improved his average back toward .300 with a .292.

Baty earned his call-up to Triple-A. In 89 games for Binghamton this season, he hit 19 home runs, 22 doubles, and drove in 59 runners. Excluding his under 10 game samples, Baty hit career highs in average, on-base percentage, and slugging.

Welcome to Syracuse. Baty made it to the Mets top minor league level. He went 8-for-22 in six games. The call to the majors would await him any day.

The Mets plan to promote Baty to the majors today. The 22-year-old is the Mets No. 2 prospect and ranks among the top 19-38 depending on the ranking system.
Baty joins Adley Rutschman, Bobby Witt Jr., Alek Manoah, and more as members of the 2019 draft to reach the majors.
It’s unknown how long Baty will be up for if he’s purely an injury replacement. The Mets don’t expect him to be their savior but maybe he won’t give them the option to send him back down.
