Adam Rubin is now reporting that Carlos Delgado has met with doctors and will now have surgery for the hip condition that has kept him out for almost two weeks.
Carlos Delgado will have surgery in New York on Tuesday, the Daily News has learned. He has a bone spur and labrum tear. Mets doctors will perform the surgery.
The team did not give any estimate on how much time Delgado would miss, but 8 weeks minimum is what the Mets are reporting.
WFAN is reporting that there is a chance he could miss the whole season.
Delgado, who went on the disabled list Saturday, is having the procedure tomorrow in New York.
Team doctor Struan Coleman will perform the surgery, which is being done to repair a torn labrum and remove a bone spur in the hip.
Delgado, 36, tried numerous treatments in recent weeks, including “mobilization” therapy in which his leg was pulled to create space in the hip. But none of the treatments worked, and the slugger finally decided to have surgery.
The Mets clearly need to do something to replace the power void in the lineup. Jeremy Reed and Dan Murphy are only short term solutions.
