As reported by WFAN and the Daily News, Carlos Beltran will have an MRI later this morning on his sore right knee.
It’s the same knee that forced Beltran to play DH during the Red Sox series.

Beltran will go for an MRI on the right knee that has been ailing for a week now and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Beltran said Monday night that he doesn’t anticipate anything is structurally wrong but that his main concern is to make sure he won’t make the painful injury worse by playing on it.
“That’s why I’m gonna have the test (Tuesday), and we’ll see,” Beltran said after reaching base three times and knocking in a run in the Mets’ 5-2 victory over the Nationals in Flushing. “I just want to make sure everything’s fine and it’s not going to get worse, and if it’s not going to get worse I’m gonna keep playing.”
After three days as the Mets’ designated hitter at Fenway Park over the weekend to keep him from having to run in the outfield, Beltran convinced himself during batting practice Monday that he could go, but it took only one inning of the game to make him wonder how long he could go on.
“When I run, I felt it, when I’m hitting from the right side – it affects everything,” he said. “And at the same time, mentally I know something’s wrong, so I’m playing the game trying to find a comfort zone. Every time you play the game like that, it’s not fun.”
One of the things that sticks out in my mind is the play last night when Carlos Beltran was thrown out at home after being waved in by third base coach, Razor Shines. Beltran was a dead duck anyway, but making matters worse was his late unorthodox slide to avoid the baseball bat that blocked the plate.
Hopefully, the MRI will reveal nothing more than some mild swelling or tenderness and no structural damage. The Mets could ill afford an injury to their star centerfielder and team MVP.
Meanwhile, Ryan Church had his MRI and it came back fine, yet he continues to complain of soreness.
Not for nothing, but that Gary Sheffield signing looks better and better each day.
