According to a report from Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo has finally ended his month-long shutdown from refraining from all baseball activities.
After playing five rehab games in mid-June, Nimmo received an MRI that revealed that he had a bulging cervical disk, and was then shut down from baseball activities for a month.
Now that a month is passed, Nimmo is reportedly easing back into some baseball activities. As Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports noted, Nimmo was participating in activities such as running, throwing, and hitting off a tee.
While this is certainly a step in the right direction, it is still going to be awhile before Nimmo returns to game action. A bulging disc is no light issue, thus his progression back is going to be slow.
DiComo noted that Nimmo could potentially begin playing in rehab games sometime in August at the earliest. If he is lucky enough to return during this season, it probably won’t be until late August or even September.
