Brandon Nimmo will sit out the rest of the Mets’ Grapefruit League schedule with a stiff neck.

Speaking before the Mets play the Astros later today, manager Buck Showalter announced that Nimmo won’t be involved today or against the Nationals on Tuesday.

However, there is hope that the outfielder will be okay to make the Opening Day roster against the Nats on Thursday.

You could be forgiven for thinking that a curse has been placed on the Mets given the plethora of bad news that has hit them over the past few days.

It has been a case of another day, another injury for the Mets with Jacob deGrom on the shelf for a month with shoulder soreness, while fellow ace Max Scherzer is a big question mark for Opening Day with hamstring discomfort.

Now, throw Nimmo’s ailment into the mix and it has been a nightmare finish to spring training for Showalter and general manager Billy Eppler, who will have to pray that their team gets through the final two exhibition games unscathed.

Thankfully, it doesn’t sound as though Nimmo’s stiff neck will keep him out for a sustained period of time, but it is a situation worth keeping an eye on given that the 29-year-old has suffered with neck injuries before, including being on the injured list for just shy of four months in 2019 with a bulging disk.

Let’s hope it isn’t anything serious this time around.

Nimmo has just a .631 OPS through 31 spring plate appearances with four singles, a home run and five walks. In the meantime, Mark Canha will play center field on Monday, and Starling Marte will likely man center field if Nimmo has to miss an extended period of time.
