Mets outfield prospect Brandon Nimmo told reporters on Thursday that he still has at least two or three more weeks of rehab left as he works his way back from a posterior tibial tendon tear in his left foot.
“The tissue normally needs about six to eight weeks to heal. And this is a tricky spot. It doesn’t get a whole lot of blood flow. I got a PRP injection in there to try to get some blood flow in there. It’s actually coming along very nicely. Today I didn’t have any pain with my rehab. And that was very, very comforting for me.” (Adam Rubin, ESPN NY)
Nimmo, 22, suffered the injury during a workout on Jan. 18 and after seeing team doctors was placed in a walking boot for 10 days.
The former first-rounder is coming off an injury marred season in 2015, and in a combined 104 games between High-A, Double-A and Triple-A Las Vegas he batted .269 with a .362 on-base and .372 slugging percentage. He collected 16 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs in 434 plate appearances.
“It’s definitely frustrating,” Nimmo said. “I ended last season with a little nick. And then to start the season this year with one, it’s definitely not how I pictured starting this season. But the nice part is it seems to be a lot less serious than what we thought at first.”
Look for Nimmo to begin the season in Triple-A Las Vegas once he returns to active duty.
