Brandon Nimmo was the latest New York Met injured. On Friday, Nimmo left the game after an awkward slide into second base. He underwent imaging the next day and luckily received some good news. Nimmo was only diagnosed with low-grade sprains in both his ankle and knee. Seemingly, especially given the initial reaction, a best-case scenario.

Nimmo agreed with this claim that his diagnosis was a “best-case scenario.” In a recent interview, he said, “Low (grade) sprain, ankle, and knee, which is honestly best-case scenario with what happened.” Nimmo added that he is feeling better by the day and is, “pretty glad,” about the outcome of the injury overall.

Of course, after the news broke of what the exact ailment was, Nimmo was quickly labelled as “week-to-week.” Though, Nimmo himself believes he may be able play on March 30 when the regular season begins. He said in the same interview referenced above, “In my hearts of hears, yeah I do think [he will be ready for Opening Day]. Obviously, we have to see how it goes, but, yeah, right now I definitely think that i’ll be ready for Opening Day.” A very encouraging statement from the 29-year-old center fielder.

Any extent of time missed by Brandon would be a big blow to the team. As has been well documented since his tenure with the Mets began, he brings so much to the table. If he does miss some time, expect Mark Canha, Tommy Pham or Tim Locastro to fill in. Though, hopefully Nimmo’s expectations to be in the lineup come Opening Day come true.
