The Mets announced a litany of roster moves Friday ahead of the Subway Series with the Yankees.
Jeurys Familia will be activated off the injured list Friday, the team announced, along with Brandon Nimmo (finger nerve damage) and Tomás Nido (wrist bruise).
Marcus Stroman also returned to the team from the bereavement list and is slated to start Saturday.
Familia and Nido completed short IL stints after being placed on the injured list on June 21 and June 23, respectively. Familia through one scoreless inning on his rehab assignment, and Nido went 1-for-4 in his lone rehab game.
Nimmo, on the other hand, has been on the IL for two months. His rehab started and stopped, and after a setback, the team discovered the issue in his finger wasn’t a sprain but rather nerve damage. Once they solved that issue, Nimmo went through an eight-game rehab where he went 5-for-26 with five walks. (That’s a .379 OBP for those scoring at home.)
The four corresponding moves start with David Peterson being placed on the 10-day IL. Luis Rojas said Thursday that Peterson wasn’t feeling better with his side tightness and likely wouldn’t make his next start.
Patrick Mazeika, Travis Blankenhorn and Thomas Szapucki were optioned to Triple-A Syracuse as the remaining three moves.
The Mets open a three-game series at Yankee Stadium Friday night. The reinforcements come at a critical time as the team’s NL East lead is shrinking heading into the All-Star break.
Nimmo will start in center field and bat leadoff in his return, and Pete Alonso will get time at designated hitter during the opening game. Check out the full lineup below.
