After game one on Saturday against the Washington Nationals, the New York Mets announced that outfielder Brandon Nimmo was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Early in the game Nimmo exited with hamstring tightness after pulling up during a run from second to third. He was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI before exiting the game.

“It’s a strain in his hamstring,” stated Luis Rojas. “He felt it around third on that play when he was thinking about scoring from second because the second baseman was playing in the outfield.” Rojas described how frustrated Nimmo was, calling him a guy who takes care himself. “He’s one of the first guys to the field and he’s one of the last guys leaving because of how much he does to keep himself out there on the playing field,” stated Rojas.

With Nimmo being placed on the injured list, the Mets have recalled infielder Travis Blankenhorn from Triple-A Syracuse.

Many feel the recent surge by the Mets is due in part to the ‘new’ top of the lineup with Jonathan Villar leading off and Nimmo second. The Mets have been quicker on the base paths, taking an extra base when the opportunity arises. Nimmo, for his part, has a .420 OBP, the eighth highest season total in Mets history with a minimum of 300 plate appearances.

We all hope Nimmo is back on the field soon.
