After Tuesday night’s game, Brandon Nimmo showed little concern about his leg injury. He was diagnosed with a quad contusion after X-rays came back negative and is considered day-to-day. He hopes to play in Wednesday’s game.

Brandon Nimmo left Game 2 of Tuesday’s doubleheader with the Cardinals with an apparent knee injury. He was replaced by Luis Guillorme, who moved to second base. Jeff McNeil moved to left field, Mark Canha moved to right field and Travis Jankowski moved to center field.

Nimmo was hit with a foul ball while batting with two outs and a runner on first in the bottom of the seventh. A couple of pitches later, he hit a dribbler past the mound and was thrown out at first. After sprinting to first base, he came up limping and keeled over. He continued limping back to the dugout and was taken out of the game.

He will presumably get X-rays done within hours.

Nimmo has been the Mets’ best hitter this year, racking up a 169 wRC+ through Sunday’s play. After his most recent at-bat, he has an .855 OPS in 143 plate appearances.

The free-agent-to-be missed a couple of games earlier this season while on the COVID-19 injured list. He also missed around two-and-a-half months last season with finger and hamstring issues.

We’ll update with more information as it becomes available.
