brandon nimmo

As Sandy Alderson’s scouting people relish in their enthusiasm over Monday night’s second round selection of high school first baseman Desmond Lindsay, here’s something interesting about the regime’s first ever draft pick.

After talking with team officials, Andy Martino of the Daily News reports that some Mets people are already looking past Brandon Nimmo and now see Michael Conforto as the outfielder who will make it.

Martino says that according to sources, the Mets have moved on from Nimmo – so much so – that he could easily find himself packaged in a larger trade this year.

In parts of five seasons, since being selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 Draft, Nimmo has a .275 average with 22 home runs and 144 RBI in 1,550 plate appearances spanning 350 games.

Nimmo has shown a good eye at the plate and has drawn tons of walks, giving him a .385 on-base percentage as a pro.

However, he has spent parts of every season on the disabled list with various injuries ranging from bruised fingers, strained hamstrings, as well as back, shoulder and knee issues. The latter currently has him out of commission and he has already missed 22 games this season.

Last night, the Mets were very high on their selection of Desmond Lindsay who they tabbed as an “offensive machine”, a “power and speed talent” and “one of the best high school power hitters” in the draft. Or basically a lot of the same things they said about Nimmo five drafts ago.
