The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a deal with free agent reliever Brandon Morrow according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM first reported that a deal between both parties was close. The deal is for two years and in the $10-11 million range.
Morrow was lights-out for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017. In 43 2/3 innings and 45 games out of the bullpen, he had a 2.06 ERA, 0.916 WHIP, 1.55 FIP, 0.0 HR/9, 1.9 BB/9, and 10.3 SO/9.
With the Mets looking to add a late-inning reliever or two, Morrow made sense for the Mets. He was one of five pitchers mentioned in our MMO roundtable that discussed the question of which reliever the Mets should prioritize this offseason.
While Morrow was a possibility, he has never really been connected to the Mets this offseason.
Soon after, it was reported that Luke Gregerson agreed to a two-year $11 million deal with the St. Louis Cardinals per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Gregerson put up a career-worst 4.57 ERA with the Houston Astros last season. In addition he had a 4.62 FIP, 1.344 WHIP, and 70 strikeouts in 61 innings and 65 appearances.
