The Mets obliterated the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon by the score of 8-0 to take the series, their second straight on this road trip. It was the Mets’ third shutout victory of the season.

David Wright led the Mets’ 12-hit attack with four hits including two doubles, a triple and his 12th home run of the season. It marked his first career game with four extra-base hits and tied a franchise record. Wow… Wight also drove in two and scored a pair of runs.

Eric Young Jr. had a huge game at the top of the order and went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Marlon Byrd continued his hot stretch with two more hits and a pair of runs driven in.

Oh yeah… Matt Harvey pitched today… The righthander didn’t strikeout 13 as he did in his last start, but he did deliver six scoreless innings before the rains came and ended his outing. Harvey hit 100 mph on the radar gun and stymied the Phillies lineup, holding them to just two hits and a walk while striking out a meager six batters. He improves to 7-1 with a league leading 2.01 ERA.

LaTroy Hawkins and Brandon Lyon delivered three scoreless innings out of the pen.

Special thanks to Ben Revere for his atrocious three-base error that led to three runs for the Mets. #PHILLYFAIL #LOLPhillies

The Mets (30-42) are now just three games behind the Phillies for third place in the NL East. They now head to Chicago for a two-game interleague series that begins on Tuesday with a marquee matchup that will pit Zack Wheeler (1-0, 0.00 ERA) against Chris Sale (5-6, 2.69).

Great game… Great series… Great road trip…
