As per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York Mets left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins has been drawing interest ahead of the August 31 waiver deadline.

Blevins, 34, has pitched to a 3.66 earned-run average this year in 49 appearances (32 innings), with a 1.281 WHIP, 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings, and a 104 ERA+.

The crafty left-handed specialist has actually had better success against right-handed batters this season (.155/.290/.224 slash line against vs RHB; .276/.368/.483 vs. LHB) and last year.

Blevins began this season inconsistently. He didn’t allow an earned run until his tenth appearance of the year, gave up five runs over two appearances (April 16 and April 19; 0.2 innings combined), then reeled off another eleven straight scoreless appearances.

Since the beginning of July, the Ohio native owns a 1.50 earned-run average in 15 outings (12 innings), with a .171/.292/.244 slash line against and a .222 BABIP.

DiComo notes that “multiple teams” have been in touch with the Mets, but that it “doesn’t sound as if anything is imminent”.
