According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, reigning NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell has agreed to a two-year, $62 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. The deal has an opt-out after 2024. The news comes after reports emerged Snell was in close talks with the Houston Astros on a deal, but the two couldn’t agree on a number.

The 31-year-old lefty will join last year’s Cy Young runner-up Logan Webb at the top of the San Francisco rotation. He will reunite with manager Bob Melvin, his former skipper with the Padres. This is the second major free agent signing for the Giants this spring. San Francisco signed third baseman Matt Chapman to a three-year, $54 million contract earlier this month.

Snell went 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 3.44 FIP for the Padres last year to win his second Cy Young award. He had 234 strikeouts in 180 innings. He won the American League award in 2018 with Tampa Bay when he posted a career-best 1.89 ERA.

For his career, Snell has pitched to a 3.20 ERA in 992 2/3 innings with 1,223 strikeouts.
