brandon-nimmo-2Sunday the Binghamton Mets defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 8 to 5, securing a trip to the Eastern League Championship Series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. This will mark the first time in 20 years that the B-Mets have advanced to the championship.

The Mets got plenty of hitting to go along with pitching at the right time. While both starters struggled, giving up a combined 12 runs, the bullpens were incredible. The Mets jumped out to an early lead with 2 runs in the 1st. The Sea Dogs answered right back with a run of their own.

Most of the scoring was done in the middle innings. The Mets put up a 6-spot in the 4th and the Sea Dogs scored in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings. The score after 6 was 8 to 5. It would remain there through the end.

Brandon Nimmo contributed 3 hits including a double and scored twice. Darrell Ceciliani, Travis Taijeron and Wilfredo Tovar each contributed a pair of hits as well.

After Gabriel Ynoa‘s rough 5.2 innings (5 earned runs, 9 hits, 8 strikeouts), the bullpen came on and didn’t surrender a run over the final 3.1. Hansel Robles struck out 4 of the 9 batters he faced and Cody Satterwhite slammed the door, earning the save.

It wasn’t a pretty win from a pitching perspective but the hitters picked things up and sent the team to the Eastern League Championship which begins on Tuesday.
