The New York Mets came back and won today in game 1 of a doubleheader against the Rockies by a final score of 4-3.

On The Mound

Jacob deGrom was masterful. He went 6 innings on 3 hits, no earned runs, and 14 strikeouts. He lowered his season ERA to 0.46. At one point making a run at history by striking out 9 batters in a row.

It all fell apart for the Mets in the 5th inning when the Mets defense really hurt deGrom. First, it was Jeff McNeil on a throwing error letting allowing Josh Fuentes to reach base. When Dom Nunez tripled Fuentes scored. Yonathan Daza then hit a sacrifice fly and Nunez scored on a bad throw by Michael Conforto. Then for the cherry on top of this awful sundae for the Mets Raimel Tapia hit a home run to make 3-1 Mets. That made it three unearned runs for deGrom.

When the Mets came back and took the lead in the 7th Edwin Diaz came on and got his first save of the year. The Mets struck out 17 batters out of 21.

At The Plate

Brandon Nimmo continued his great hitting ways by getting on base for the 22nd straight game. The Mets, while late, actually got deGrom the run support he deserves.

Pete Alonso was great for the Mets in game 1. In the 3rd he had an RBI single that scored none other than deGrom for the Mets to take a 1-0 lead. Then in the top of the 6th, he hit a bullet of a home run to bring the Mets within 1.

As the Mets headed to the 7th it was Jonathan Villar with a game-tying RBI double that scored Albert Almora Jr. He is 6-20 to start the year. Francisco Lindor then had his biggest hit as a Met thus far with an RBI single to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.
