girl father first pitch

I was watching this show on MLB Network that just concluded where they counted down the Top 50 Fan Moments of the 2013 season.

It was mostly a collection of great fan catches in the stands, but tucked in neatly at No. 2 was this incredible moment that took place in Tampa Bay just before the start of the Red Sox vs. Rays game.

Watch nine-year-old Alayna Adams throw out the first pitch and get the surprise of her life when she realizes that the catcher is not the Rays’ Jose Molina, but her own father Lt. Col. Will Adams, who had been deployed overseas in Afghanistan for the past two years.

After Alayna bounced a strike to home plate and her dad flipped up the catcher’s mask, she froze for a second, realized it was her father, and ran full speed launching herself into his open arms.

Dana Adams, Will’s wife and Alayna’s mom, didn’t even know about the surprise either and soon joined them at home plate in tears.
