Mets get shutout by Tim Lincecum and the Giants 2-0 in their first game of the second half. Sixth time the Mets have been shutout this season. Carlos Beltran also makes his return to the Mets and get his first hit of the season.

Game Notes

RA Dickey led the Mets into the second half the best he could. He gave the Mets seven innings giving up one run on five hits. He struck out three and walked one. He had another great start, but with the lack of offense the Mets gave him, he received an undeserved loss. Two time Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum, just proved too much for the Mets.

Elmer Dessens, Pedro Feliciano and Bobby Parnell all worked together to pitch the eighth inning. Dessens gave up two hits and a run, Feliciano walked a batter on four pitches, and Parnell got the double play to get out of the inning.

Not much to say about the offense for the Mets. Tim Lincecum was dealing and the Mets could only touch him for six hits, all of them being singles. He had all of his stuff working tonight, and there’s nothing you can do but tip your hat to him.

Ike Davis, David Wright, and Angel Pagan combined to go 0-12 on the night and were the only hitters for the Mets not to get a hit.

I’m sure you’re all wondering about the return of Carlos Beltran. He went 1-4 with a single and a caught stealing. The stolen base attempt was a decision you have to question. He was more likely trying to prove to himself that he’s fully back. He ran down a few fly balls in center, but allowed Jason Bay to take charge in the outfield, probably because they never played with each other before. Beltran made contact in each of his at-bats, and looked okay out there.

Josh Thole had some trouble catching Dickey tonight. He caught him twice before and had no difficulty, but with the wind playing tricks on the field tonight, Thole had some trouble handling those knucklers. Hopefully, he’ll continue to improve with more playing time and experience.

Turning Point

Giants rookie catcher, Buster Posey, hit notched both RBI’s for the Giants, first in the second and again in the eighth.

Game Ball

RA Dickey had a great start and looks to be in a good groove since joining the rotation. He couldn’t out-duel Lincecum, but then again, not many can.

Up Next
