Today was a sad day in the sports world as the New York Post announced the somber news that their beloved photographer and journalist Anthony Causi passed away on Sunday night due to the coronavirus. He was 48 and left behind a wife and two young children.

Anthony was widely respected in his field and was an iconic presence throughout the New York City sports landscape ranging from the Mets and Yankees, Jets and Giants, Knicks and Nets, and Isles and Rangers.

He was a master at his craft always having his lens at the ready to take a perfect shot, and over the years he has produced some of the best photographs and imagery in New York sports.

To know Anthony was to love him and his warm, kindhearted nature and gentle smile. He will be missed by us all.

The New York Mets paid their respects with a statement that read:

“On behalf of the entire Mets organization, we are deeply saddened to learn of Anthony’s passing,” Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said.

“He was a charismatic photographer who brought fans closer to the action with his breathtaking images of the Mets. More importantly, he was a friend to so many of us through his numerous spring trainings in Port St. Lucie as well as being a fixture at Citi Field.”

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Romina, son John, daughter Mia and the entire family.”

Causi was with The Post since 1994, working his way up from an entry level assistant a full-time sports photographer and photojournalist.

“Anthony Causi was our colleague, our friend and a brilliant journalist,” said Stephen Lynch, editor in chief of The Post.

“He was, quite simply, one of the best sports photographers in New York City, capturing all the major moments of the past 25 years. Soft-spoken, funny, but most of all kind – he was respected by those he photographed and admired by those with whom he worked.”

All of us at MMO express our deepest condolences to Anthony’s family, friends and colleagues.
