On Monday, the New York Mets reassigned top prospect 3B Brett Baty, along with three others, to minor league camp. According to Tim Healey, joining Baty on the cut list were OF Jake Mangum, IF Matt Reynolds, and LHP Rob Zastryzny.

Baty appeared in seven spring games, going 2-for-8 with one walk and four strikeouts. Having yet to play above Double-A, his reassignment does not come as a surprise. The Mets will likely have their young third baseman begin 2022 at Binghamton with the Rumble Ponies.

MMO’s Michael Mayer noted Brett Baty’s number 1 MLB Pipeline rank at third base.

Mangum and Reynolds combined for 14 spring ABs and will provide organizational depth in 2022 for the Mets. In addition, Rob Zastryzny, a 30-year-old lefty, impressed during his time with the major league club this March. He hasn’t appeared in an MLB game since 2018 but struck out five of the ten batters he faced this spring. With the roster short on southpaws, he could log valuable innings for the parent club this year.
