Adam Rubin of ESPN New York says the Mets have released RHP Miguel Batista. He was designated for assignment after last Saturday’s game against the Dodgers.
This just mean’s he’s officially an ex-Met. So who’s next?

Batista struggled this season for the Mets, going 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA, having allowed 25 earned runs, 53 hits, 31 walks and five home runs in only 46 2/3 innings in 30 appearances and five starts.
I wrote this after yesterday’s game in my recap:
I nearly peed in my pants when the game started and Miguel Batista was greeted with an absolutely resounding outburst of boos before he even took threw the first pitch. I’m sorry,
I felt terrible for Miguel, but the other part of me just couldn’t help laughing especially when the camera panned into the outfield where a huge outstretched banner read in big bold letters, “We Want Harvey!”
You just knew right then and there what would happen next, AND IT DID!
Before you could bat an eyelash or take your first sip of a frosty brew, it was 4-0 Dodgers and Batista was done after three innings.
His exit was even more unmerciful as his entrance was. Miguel, here’s my advice to you…
Go get drunk tonight, pack your bags, and good luck wherever you go from here. And in the words of that weird British woman who hosted the game-show The Weakest Link, “Good-Bye”.
The Mets announced this morning that Miguel Batista has been designated for assignment to make room for newly promoted reliever Elvin Ramirez from Triple-A Buffalo..
