Recap

He came up to the mound, everyone doubting him and he shocked the world. Miguel Batista was on fire tonight! He dominated the Brewers tonight and lasted longer than most of our starters do. Going seven strong innings, only allowing four hits, one walk, striking out five and at one point set down 12 of 13 batters he faced. He impressed me and impressed everyone. He’ll earn himself one more start. He walks away with the win, his first of the season.

Byrdak and Parnell keeps the pitching going with combining for a hitless eighth inning.

Frank Francisco came in with a three run lead and only had to get three outs to get the save. I mean come on, Batista can do it, it shouldn’t be that hard. Gives up a lead off single, allows a stolen base, gets one out, gives up an rbi single, walks the next batter, gets a strikeout and finally gets the third out. $5MM for this closer and we once again have to watch between our fingers and biting our nails. Francisco this season now 22 hits and 8 walks in 14 IP. However, came through this time and gets his ninth save of the season.

The Mets didn’t have many hits in this game. In fact only had two hits and two runs entering the eighth, but then the magical duo of Wright and Murphy and were able to give the Mets a three run cushion for Francisco. Luckily he was able to hold on this time.

Wright had one hit, a double, a run, and a walk. Murphy had two hits, an RBI and a run.

Mets haven’t walked much this season but drew six of them tonight, and Kirk Niewenhuis had a stolen base as well, something else the Mets haven’t done much this season.

Ronnie Cedeno didn’t have a hit today but made a great suicide squeeze bunt to score Murphy.

Ike Davis’ season continues to snowball down going 0-4 with two strikeouts and left six men on base.

Notes

Familia had seven Ks in five innings pitched for Buffalo tonight.

Daniel Murphy has a 10 game hitting streak now. Makes me wonder who will have a higher batting average at the season’s end, Wright or Murphy.

Extend Wright petition continues as Wright makes a stellar play at third in the eighth and gets his ninth double. Has hit 18 of the last 19 games. Hitting just under .400 at the end of the game. Mr. Captain is on fire!

Game Ball

Miguel Batista. The Mets had no offense and had to rely on Francisco again, but we’re able to win thanks to him.
