The fantastic folks at Baseball Prospectus released their updated New York Mets prospect list with the first 10 free for readers. The following 10, and reports for all of them are available via subscription.

Here are their top 10 heading into the 2024 season:

  1. Jett Williams – SS/CF
  2. Drew Gilbert – OF
  3. Luisangel Acuña – SS/2B/CF
  4. Ryan Clifford – 1B/OF
  5. Christian Scott – RHP
  6. Marco Vargas – 2B/SS/3B
  7. Jeremy Rodriguez – SS/2B
  8. Ronny Mauricio – SS/2B/3B/LF
  9. Colin Houck – SS
  10. Mike Vasil – RHP

One of the first things that jumps out to me is that exactly half of the list –Gilbert, Acuña, Clifford, Vargas, Rodriguez– was acquired by the Mets at the trade deadline this year when they decided to sell. The second thing that really jumped out to me, and I’m sure it does to Mets fans, is Rodriguez being in the top 10 after being acquired from Tommy Pham this year. I believed I was going to be the high-person on the ranking of Rodriguez when my last 2023 list came out next week. However, BP has him higher than I will, and he’s certainly an interesting prospect to watch in 2024 when he makes his stateside debut.

Ronald Hernandez, who the Mets acquired with Vargas from the Marlins for David Robertson, came in at No. 15 on the BP list.

Scott had one of the biggest breakouts, not only among Mets minor league pitchers, but among all pitchers in the minors this season. Mostly perceived as a future reliever heading into 2023, Scott improved his fastball shape, command of all his pitches, and changeup developing into a legitimate third pitch. Scott could very well start the season in Triple-A Syracuse on the cusp of being the first player from the Mets 2021 draft to make the big leagues.
