Baseball America released their updated rating of Major League farm systems with the Mets dropping seven spots down to 26th out of 30.

BA has two Mets ranked in their top 100 prospects, both shortstops, Ronny Mauricio at No. 62 and Andres Gimenez at No. 71. Left-handed pitcher Anthony Kay was recently dropped out of the top 100 despite being previously ranked No. 80.

This ranking could improve soon though after a strong 2019 draft landed them two first round talents as BA noted, “The Mets’ bold 2019 draft strategy of going all in for three top prospects makes for an interesting story to watch over the next few years.”

The Mets also have most of their talent in the lower levels with the likes of RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson (St. Lucie), LHP Thomas Szapucki (St. Lucie), 3B Mark Vientos (Columbia), INF Shervyen Newton (Columbia), C Francisco Alvarez (Kingsport), and their top three picks from last months draft.

Kay and fellow lefty starter David Peterson are the closest top prospects to helping the Mets. Kay pitched well to start the year in Double-A that pushed the Mets to promote him Triple-A Syracuse. Peterson has pitched fairly well for Binghamton with a 4.43 ERA, 3.32 FIP, and a 9.58 K/9.
