Bartolo Colon, the 43-year-old mystifying man who continues to defy odds with each start as the season goes along, did it again on Wednesday night. Colon and the Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by a score of 5-2.
In what has been his best season a great season for the hefty hurler, Colon again put forth another successful start. Seven innings, seven hits, two runs, one of which was earned. He allowed no walks and put down three Marlins on strikes. That was Big Sexy’s night in a nutshell, picking up the 12th victory of his season. Manager, Terry Collins expects nothing less from Colon.
“That’s what he does,” Collins said. “He just goes out and does his job. As we’ve said so many times here in the past two weeks with all of our pitching issues, he’s the one constant.”

Colon is 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA (11 earned runs/38.0 innings) in his last six starts. He has struck out 24 and walked six over those six starts. Colon has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of the six outings and in 15 of his last 19 games. At this point of the season, Bart did not even expect to be in the rotation.
“I’m very happy, also just pleased to be doing good work,” Colon said. “I did expect to be in the bullpen at this point, so I’m very thankful for the opportunity to still be starting.”
Lucky for the Mets, Colon has pitched so well this season as the starting rotation has been dealing with injury after injury. Colon has been a stable force in an otherwise injury prone rotation. He is the most entertaining man on the diamond when he pitches, so lets enjoy it for however much longer it may last.
