After passing his physical yesterday, the Mets’ projected Opening Day catcher, Rod Barajas, arrived to the Mets spring training complex this morning in Port St. Lucie.

Barajas threw out 34 percent of potential base stealers last year and hit .226, while driving in a career-high 71 runs with 19 home runs and 19 doubles. Over the last two years, the 34-year old Barajas compiled a 3.81 catcher’s ERA, good for fourth best among major leagues catchers who started 200 or more games.

The Mets are yet to announce who he will replace on the 40-man roster. Players who could be removed include: C Omir Santos, IF Anderson Hernandez, OF Jason Pridie, LHP Arturo Lopez, and RHP Eddie Kunz.

There’s also the possibility that the Mets could make a trade to make room for Barajas, although that seems unlikely at this stage of the game..
