Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the Oakland A’s have shipped starter Scott Kazmir to the Houston Astros for prospects RHP Daniel Mengden and highly regarded catcher Jacob Nottingham.
The Astros had made no secret that they were ready to increase payroll to support the team’s playoff run and supplement their elite young talents.
Kazmir, who signed a two-year, $22MM deal in 2014, has about $7 million dollars owed to him for the rest of this year.
The 31-year-old southpaw has a 2.38 ERA over 109 2/3 innings with a 8.3 strikeout rate this season.
Looks like the A’s are officially sellers…
