Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera left Sunday’s game against the Phillies in the first inning with what the team is calling a sore left knee. Cabrera had an issue with the same knee last month and missed three weeks with a strained patellar tendon.

Cabrera was injured when he collided with Phillies first baseman Tommy Joseph after bunting for a base hit. Oddly enough, it appeared that Cabrera had injured his wrist on the collision, and trainer Ray Ramirez seemed to be examining his arm and elbow.

However, Cabrera remained in the game and then while running to second base on a Kelly Johnson single, he appeared to be limping and was removed from the game and replaced by Wilmer Flores.

Hopefully this is nothing serious as Cabrera has been raging hot since returning from the disabled list, batting .438 (14-for-32) with four doubles, three homers and nine RBI in eight games.

Asdrubal hit his 16th home run of the season last night, a two-run shot in the third inning that gave the Mets the lead. The 16 home runs are tied for the second-most he’s hit in a single season in his career.

Additionally, the 16 home runs by Cabrera are tied for the second-most by a Mets shortstop in team history with José Reyes’ 16 homers in 2008.
