Cabrera Walker

Since returning from the disabled list on August 19, Asdrubal Cabrera has been on absolute fire. He has helped to spark this Mets offense at just the right time as they look to make a run at a Wild Card spot.

In Friday’s 9-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the series opener, Cabrera homered twice, once from each side of the plate. That feat put him into the Mets’ record books as he joins Carlos Beltran who last accomplished this on May 12, 2011 in Colorado.

“It’s not easy,” Cabrera said. “I’m excited that it happened. Everything I can do to help the team win, I’m excited about.” (NY Post)

Cabrera started off the game with back-to-back homers, following Jose Reyes‘ leadoff shot with one of his own. He has been on an absolute tear since his return, hitting to a .393/.400/.750 slash. During this period he has hit two homers with seven RBI. Manager, Terry Collins could not be happier to have back his shortstop.

“He’s played very well since he’s been back, and his presence in the clubhouse, he’s a pro,” Collins said. “This guy is a pro. He plays the game the right way and it’s nice to have him in there again.”

Overall on the season, Cabrera has hit to a .265/.314/.434 slash line to go along with 15 homers and 40 RBI. It has been another solid season for the veteran as he has been a solid presence on the field and in the lineup for the Metropolitans.

The Mets offense has begun to click on all cylinders as for once all of their main pieces are healthy. At just the right time, this team is coming together, they have now won five of their last six games. The Wild Card is well within their grasp as they sit 3.5 games back.
