Former Mets catcher Anthony Recker has signed with the Cleveland Indians on a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. Earlier this off-season he was outrighted off the Mets 40-man roster and elected free agency.

He got into 32 games for New York in 2015, batting .125/.239/.213 with only a double and two homeruns (both in same game) in 80 at bats. Recker slugged .374 in 2014 and .400 back in 2013 with the Mets. He struggled behind the plate as well this season throwing out just one of eleven runners trying to steal.

His most memorable performance this past season was when he had to play third base for one inning which you can watch here. He will also be remembered for when he pitched an inning back in 2013.

The Mets currently have Travis d’Arnaud, Kevin Plawecki, and Johnny Monell as their three catchers on the 40-man roster.

Earlier this week minor league pitcher Martires Arias signed with the San Diego Padres on a minor league deal after having a great 2015 campaign with the Savannah Sand Gnats in the Mets system. Here is the coverage of that over at MetsMinors.net.
