Brett Baty continued his scorching hot spring training with another terrific performance Saturday night. Playing third base, Baty went 2-for-2 with a couple singles and a run scored. He also walked twice and made a couple stellar plays at third base. Everything is  going right for the 23-year-old as he attempts to break camp with the big club.

With the splendid performance on Saturday, Baty is now slashing .458/.552/.625 to start spring. This is good for a staggering 1.177 OPS. His OPS ranks third and his .458 batting average ranks first this spring among qualified hitters. He also has one home run and five RBIs across the 24 at-bats. Baty has also flashed some speed on the base paths via two stolen bases.

One of the more highly-debated aspects surrounding Baty and his current major-league readiness is his defense. Well, despite a couple hiccups, his defense throughout spring training has been fine. Maybe his extra work behind the scenes with third base coach, and former infielder, Joey Cora has been paying off.

It has been a dream start to spring training for both Baty and the Mets organization. Despite starting the season in the minor leagues being the expectation before spring started, Baty has hopefully helped adjust these expectations. Everything he has done, at the plate, and in the field, has shown he is major-league ready.

These last few weeks of spring, especially with several of the everyday players currently participating in the World Baseball Classic, are going to be vital for Baty. Keep performing like he has been, and there is no reason why one of the Mets’ top prospect should be in the minor leagues come March 30.
