Kevin Kernan of the New York Post caught up with David Wright while he was rehabbing at the Mets complex in Port St. Lucie.

The Mets’ captain continues to work his way back and suddenly it’s becoming easier and easier to envision him batting in the Mets lineup again. It’s getting real.

Someone pointed out to me the other day, that the Mets haven’t lost a game since David Wright came and hung out with them during the last homestand. Not surprising…

“I couldn’t be more proud of – especially the younger players – of what this team has done. It’s incredible. You sit on the bench and you can’t help but smile and see the success these guys are having and getting to do it on the national stage, where Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard and Daniel Murphy are becoming household names because people are finally getting to see them play in meaningful games.”

Wright has been doing everything he can to accelerate his return to the lineup, working hard on his batting, fielding and throwing. According to Terry Collins, he will be batting second and what is now looking like a stacked Mets lineup.

Granderson, Wright, Cespedes, Duda, Murphy, d’Arnaud, wow… I didn’t even mention Cuddyer, Flores, Tejada and Conforto…

Read the rest of Kernan’s article, it’s worth the five minutes.

“Baseball is a simple game. If you have good players and if you keep them in the right frame of mind then the manager is a success.”

It sounds like Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson is describing Terry Collins in this quote. Think about that for a minute.

The Mets won three games in a row on the road for the first time this season. And while they’ve gotten a lot of accolades for their big hits during the series, let’s not forget how big these three were:

  1. Bartolo Colon: 8.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
  2. Jon Niese: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
  3. Matt Harvey: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

All of a sudden our starting pitchers don’t have to be perfect anymore to get a win… they have a larger margin for error. That means they can pitch without any additional weight on their shoulders… they can pitch fearlessly. Watch out.

Catch you guys later… LGM
