Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters in Los Angeles tonight, that right-hander Matt Harvey will be available to pitch in relief if needed in Game 5 of the NLDS.
According to Collins, Harvey approached him during the flight to LA and told him he was ready to pitch out of the bullpen if the situation calls for it.
It’s a great gesture by Harvey. He is targeted to make two starts in the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs if the Mets advance.
Additionally, rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard will be available to pitch in relief on Thursday night, and particularly in the 7th and 8th innings. Thor will be on regular rest so he should be at full strength. Bad news for the Dodgers.
Terry Collins is very confident in Jacob deGrom as his starter in this do-or-die match, as are all of his teammates.
“Not to take anything away from Noah (Syndergaard) or (Matt) Harvey,” Collins said.
“We just thought this guy was pitching the best. So if anybody was going to pitch two games in this series for us, it would be Jacob deGrom.”
And if you think deGrom is nervous about pitching in the biggest game of his life tomorrow night, have no fear.
DeGrom was as cool as a cucumber this evening, and explained why he believes the Mets can bounce back and defeat the Dodgers tomorrow.
“I think it comes from our desire to win. This was our goal. We want to make it to the World Series. And this is one step towards that. I just think we never give up and we battle to the end.”
Expect Michael Conforto and Wilmer Flores to be in the lineup, the skipped concluded, and then the regular starters everywhere else.
The team is totally pumped for this epic showdown.
“It’s going to be fun,” catcher Travis d’Arnaud said. “This is what baseball’s all about. It’s going to be a fight in Game 5.”
Wow… I love our chances tomorrow… And look at the backend of our bullpen now… DeGrom, Harvey, Syndergaard, Familia… Boom!
