Alex Torres was brilliant in yesterday’s relief appearance as he escaped a bases loaded jam with no outs during the 6th inning.

Torres struck out all three batters he faced, which bailed Dillon Gee out of trouble and kept the Mets in the game.

“I owe him way more than a steak dinner for that,” said right-hander Dillon Gee, who was responsible for the three runners on base.

“I feel terrible that I left him in that spot. He was unbelievable. He came in and just dominated.” (Jamal Collier, MLB.com)

“We needed that,” Torres said. “We needed that, just to wake up.”

“I’m just trying to get comfortable myself,” Torres said. “Just try to make a pitch, hit a spot, throw the ball down and just make quality pitches.”

Thoughts:

I was skeptical of Torres at first when the Mes acquired him due to his high walk rate, but I have been very impressed so far.

Torres lowered his ERA to 2.79 after yesterday’s excellent performance, and he looks like a solid addition to the bullpen.
