New York Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson addressed the media today in a press conference at Citi Field.

One of the key notes from the presser was this quote, “There are no current plans to promote either one of them (Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith). …unless one of them can pitch”

Fans and media have been calling for the Mets’ top prospect, and one of the best in baseball, in shortstop Rosario.

The 21-year old Rosario is currently hitting .366/.407/.547 with a career low 13.6 strikeout percentage and eight stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Asdrubal Cabrera is on the disabled list and the soon-to-be 34-year old Jose Reyes is playing shortstop in his absence with a .595 OPS.

Alderson also went on to say that he has started meeting with the team’s medical staff on a daily basis in light of the amount of prominent injured players.

The quote by Alderson on Rosario and Smith is absolutely ridiculous, we all know the real reason we haven’t see Rosario and won’t until at least mid-June, is the Super Two arbitration deadline.

The notion that Rosario can’t help this current Mets team is way off base, and the fact that he can’t help the pitching staff even farther. Asdrubal Cabrera has shown virtually no range at shortstop this year and Jose Reyes hasn’t been a positive defender at the position since 2007.

Mets shortstops this year have combined for a .216/.294/.333 slash line and a major league worst -9 DRS on defense. Tell me Rosario couldn’t help this team.
