On Friday afternoon, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson answered a variety of questions from reporters though he brought up bench player Jose Reyes all by himself.

Towards the end of the press conference, Alderson unprompted, brought up Reyes by saying he was surprised there wasn’t a question about him yet.

Alderson went on to say that, “Reyes still has value to us, he’s demonstrated that over the last week, 10 days or so.”

Reyes has been one of the worst players in baseball this overall with -0.7 WAR in 50 games. He has gone 5-for-17 with five walks in June to lift his season line to .174/.268/.244 over 97 plate appearances.

The veteran has played shortstop, third base and second base this year while grading out defensively negatively at third (-2 DRS) and short (-2 DRS).
