New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson touched on a variety of topics on Thursday when he talked to a group of fans that came to see the equipment truck head down Port St. Lucie.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that Alderson was intrigued by the fact that veteran infielder recently told the New York Post that he would prefer to play second base instead of third.

The Mets have been showing interest in free agent third baseman Todd Frazier this offseason and the veteran has voiced that he would like to play in New York again after finishing the 2017 season with the Yankees.

Appearing in 147 games last season the 32-year-old Frazier hit .213/.344/.428, 105 OPS+ with 27 homers and 76 RBI. He also had a 108 wRC+ and .335 wOBA in 576 plate appearances.

Frazier ranked second among American League third basemen last year with 10 DRS and his 6.7 UZR at the position tied him with Nolan Arenado for second in the majors.

Another third base option the Mets are reportedly interested in signing is Eduardo Nunez. Between the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox in 2017, he hit .313/.341/.460, 110 OPS+ with 12 homers, 58 RBI and 24 stolen bases.

On the defensive side, Nunez logged 447.2 innings at third in 2017 with 0 DRS and a -1.9 UZR. At second base he had -4 DRS and a -1.8 UZR in 213.2 innings.

Alderson also listed off numerous reasons why free agent third baseman Mike Moustakas was not an option for the Mets on Thursday afternoon.
