Just a quick update as Mets GM Sandly Alderson spoke to reporters about the news that Ike Davis has been re-fitted with a new boot on his foot and that he will cease all baseball activities for three weeks.

What got my attention was that Alderson said that he hoped Davis could return by the All Star Break.

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement that Davis is coming back anytime soon. The All Star Break ends on July 14th, more than six weeks from today.

As most of you know, Ike Davis was scheduled to fly back to New York today to get an MRI performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

The results are in and unfortunately, it’s bad news…

The Mets have announced that Ike Davis will be shut down for three weeks.

The Daily News reports that they are still calling it a bone bruise, but that it could also be a high ankle sprain. Davis will be in a boot for about three weeks with no baseball activity.

There is no plan for what happens after that.

Davis was placed on the disabled list after injuring his ankle in a collision with David Wright earlier this month, and had been in Port St. Lucie rehabbing and recovering, but wasn’t making any progress and could not run.

The injury occurred on this play:

Get back soon Ike, we need you.
