Sandy Alderson told reporters at Citi Field on Friday that David Wright remains in Los Angeles and continues to get treatment on his lower back for spinal stenosis.

Wright meets with Dr. Robert Watkins every Monday to discuss any progress and to plan out each week’s specific rehabilitation goals. But he has yet to be cleared to begin any baseball activities.

“I think he’s making progress with his rehab, but he hasn’t transitioned to baseball activity,” Alderson said. “It’s something where we just have to wait and see.”

The Mets general manager described any possible timeline for his return as “ambiguous.”

Alderson did say that whenever Wright is cleared for baseball activities, the Mets third baseman will require a significant amount of time to get back into game shape.

Last week, Alderson ominously stated, “We’re not on the edge of our seats waiting for David to come back at this point.”

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports said yesterday, that he spoke to one Mets official who said he’d be surprised if Wright were to be ready before or around the All Star break, and many now view August as a potential return date if Wright comes back at all this season.
