Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, first reported that the Mets have re-signed free-agent RHP Chris Young to a minor league contract.
Sandy Alderson confirmed the signing today and spoke with reporters:
“Right now we don’t have an expectation other than a general one — that he’ll be able to pitch at some point. Until he’s seen by the doctor, and we actually see him throw, we really can’t make an estimate as to when he might be ready.
“Chris was a real positive for us in spring training last year,” Alderson said. “He pitched well early in the year. Unfortunately, he re-injured his shoulder. We’d like to see him get back to the point where he was with us early last year and go from there, because he’s been an All-Star and quality guy to have on the team.”
Young won’t be ready to pitch until July at the earliest.

Adam Rubin is reporting that right-hander pitcher Chris Young is close to re-signing with the Mets on a minor league deal.
Young made four solid starts for the Mets last season before undergoing surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder. He was 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings, allowing 12 hits and 11 walks while striking out 22.
Young was on his way to a nice season before needing surgery. On a minor league deal, the Mets have absolutely nothing to lose and much to gain. It’s a good low risk, high reward signing.
