Game 1

Kansas City Royals at Baltimore Orioles, Friday, Oct. 10, 8:00 PM, TBS

James Shields (14-8, 3.21) vs. Chris Tillman (13-6, 3.34)

The Orioles and Royals open up the highly anticipated American League Championship Series tonight in Baltimore. It’s being hailed as a “celebration” by many as these two teams that have won so little in recent memory clash for a chance to head to the World Series. Heading to the World Series and winning the AL Pennant is something neither of these teams has done since the ’80s. The Royals last won the pennant in 1985 and the Orioles did it last in 1983.

Tonights pitching matchup is also intriguing. Tillman will make his second postseason start after beating the Tigers in game one of the ALDS. In that game he pitched five innings, striking out six and giving up just two earned runs on four hits. Shields will be making his ninth career postseason start. This season he is 1-0 in two starts and has yielded six runs over that span. He’s also struck out 12 batters.

Everything about this series seems interesting. It’s two different styles of baseball going head-to-head and I think I speak for every baseball fan out there when I say this: there’s nothing better than playoff baseball!
