David Wright makes a diving catch in his first Grapefruit League game.

Playing in his first spring training game, Mets third baseman David Wright played his first game of the spring yesterday and had himself a good day at the plate going 1-for-2. Wright did a nice job working a 3-2 count before lining a sharp single off right-hander Jake Westbrook.

Wright also made a great diving stop on a hard grounder down the line off the bat of Rafael Furcal. He quickly got back up on his feet and fired a bullet to first base and threw out Furcal.

“I feel good,” he said after the game. “I got a chance to dive around a little bit, run the bases a little bit, get some at-bats. Now it’s just a matter of getting reps.Once you’re ready to play, you should be ready to play.”

According to Terry Collins, Wright will get the day off today and Wednesday before playing in back to back games starting Thursday. Collins added one of those games could possibly be a minor league game.

It looks like Wright is out of the woods. 🙂
