Adam Ottavino has re-signed with the Mets on a one-year, $4.5 million deal, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Ottavino returns to Queens after declining his one-year player option earlier this offseason. The player option was worth $6.5 million and now the New York native returns for less money. Ottavino hinted earlier this offseason he opted out earlier due to uncertainty in the Mets organization.

The righty has been a reliable arm for the Mets over his last two seasons. In 127 1/3 innings from 2022-2023, Ottavino has recorded a 2.62 ERA, 10 K/9, 3.2 BB/9, and a 156 ERA+. He also recorded 12 saves last season after Edwin Díaz missed the entire season due to a knee injury.

The Mets have made smaller moves to their bullpen throughout the offseason, but Ottavino marks their first big add. He’ll help fortify the bullpen, which lost David RobertsonJeff Brigham, and Trevor Gott to free agency.
