The Mets announced a handful of roster moves on Tuesday afternoon, including replacing a bullpen arm and the signing of Brooks Raley. The Mets designated RHP Jose Ureña for assignment following his three innings of work in Washington on Monday, where he allowed five runs and recorded a save. The Mets recalled RHP Kevin Herget from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move and announced that he would wear number 57.

Herget, 34, has posted a 3.72 ERA over nine outings for Syracuse, totaling 9.2 innings with nine strikeouts. He has exclusively worked in relief for the Mets, following his joining the Mets organization on a minor league deal this summer after his time with the Brewers. He appeared in 11 games last season for Milwaukee, posting a 1.59 ERA in seven appearances. He has 42 major league innings, totaling a 4.64 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.

The team also announced that they signed Raley to a one-year deal with a team option for 2026, and placed him on the 15-day injured list while he rehabs from Tommy John surgery from last year. To make room for Raley, the Mets moved LHP Sean Manaea to the 60-day IL. Given his timetable, this move does not impact Sean Manaea‘s return from the Injured List.

Raley has been with the Mets since 2023, posting a 2.48 ERA over 61.2 innings with a 1.20 WHIP, 70 strikeouts, and three saves.

A.J. Minter Out Long-Term

In addition to the roster moves, Carlos Mendoza announced AJ Minter is facing a “significant” lat injury that may require surgery. If it does, he’s be out for the season. That makes the Raley signing that much more important.

During the same press conference, Mendoza also said the team would call up lefty Brandon Waddell for Wednesday’s game against the Diamondbacks. It’s not clear if he’d be starting or not. (Expect Herget to get sent down after Tuesday’s game for Waddell.) Having a spot start allows Kodai Senga (and other Mets pitchers) to get an extra day of rest in a stretch of 13 games in 13 days at the start of the season.
