A familiar face is set to meet with the Mets regarding a vacant coaching staff position. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Kevin Long, who was the hitting coach the last time the Mets reached the World Series in 2015, is set to meet with the team on Tuesday.

Long was relieved of his duties as the Phillies’ hitting coach last week. The Phillies finished 88-74, second place in the NL East, six games behind the Braves. Philadelphia lost to the Braves in the Wild Card round, taking one game in a best-of-three series.

The 2027 campaign would mark Long’s 20th season as a big league coach. Notably, he was the Yankees’ hitting coach for seven years, leading them to a World Series title in 2009. His tenure with the Mets lasted between 2015 and 2017, and helped mark the Mets’ return to the Fall Classic for the first time in 15 years.

Notably, Long moved on to the Nationals after his stint with the Mets, helping them win a World Series in 2019, where he worked closely with current Mets slugger Juan Soto. The two have a close relationship.
