The Mets seem to have tailed off since being eliminated from playoff contention, losing seven of their last 10 games. With only a handful of games left and a Rookie of the Year race going down to the wire, one Mets rookie continues to perform during this final stretch.

Carson Benge by Roberto Carlo

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CARSON BENGE, OF

Carson Benge now holds the single-season Mets rookie hits record, previously held by Pete Alonso. He has remained a steady presence in the middle of the lineup, providing an on-base threat with the ability to put the ball in play and add power. This week, Benge slashed .375/.444/.625/1.069 with two home runs, four RBIs, and five runs scored. These stats amounted to a 197 wRC+ and a 0.4 fWAR for the week.

Benge averaged a 42% hard-hit rate and an 88 mph exit velocity, which is very in line with his overall numbers. He has been a consistently excellent player since he made hitting adjustments on April 23, getting better on both sides of the ball with every passing month. Benge is now approaching 4.0 fWAR for the season despite a rough first month of his rookie campaign. With only two series left to play this season, Carson Benge is making a well-earned case for NL Rookie of the Year.

Jefry Yan by Chris Simon

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: JEFRY YAN, RP

The electric factory known as Jefry Yan has returned to the big leagues with a vengeance. He threw three perfect innings on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, finishing the outing by striking out the side in order. On Saturday, Yan pitched 1.1 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies and punched out three batters.

Notably, Yan did not allow a walk in either outing, seemingly throwing his pitches more aggressively in the strike zone. He amassed a 40% strikeout rate and a 55% ground ball rate this week, as hitters could not square him up. Yan averaged 97.8 on his fastball, which leads the team, and had a 0.33 FIP, second-best on the team. There is a path to Jefry Yan establishing himself as a bullpen mainstay for next season if he continues to limit baserunners.

Juan Soto by Roberto Carlo

HONORABLE MENTION: JUAN SOTO, OF

Juan Soto continues to finish the season on a strong note, despite the leg injuries that plagued him. He is slashing .292/.393/.458/.851 with a home run, a double, five RBIs, and two runs scored. That one home run proved decisive in Friday’s win against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Juan Soto accumulated a 133 wRC+ this week and has continued to hit the ball extremely hard, averaging a 94.3 mph exit velocity and a 52.6% hard-hit rate. Soto has an opportunity to reach 30 home runs and 70 RBIs in just 110 games, showing how much of his impact was missed while he was injured. Finishing strong and healthy alongside Lindor and the young core of players will be vital for next year’s team.
