Good morning, Mets fans! The 406 in attendance for St. Lucie’s season finale went home happy.

Jonah Tong will get the start Monday at 1:10 p.m. ET at Miami and take his turn in the rotation the rest of the way, Andy Green said.

“He’s had a good run here recently (with Triple-A Syracuse) and we want to see him build on it,” Green said. “So, I think we’re all excited to see it, and we’ll continue to hand him the ball for the rest of this year. We’re not going to make a secret of that. He’s going to post when it’s his turn to pitch, and he hasn’t really had that knowledge at any point in his big-league career.”

Tong (1-1, 3.60 ERA) was disappointing overall this year at Syracuse (4.54 ERA, 22 home runs), but he’s allowed two runs or less in seven of his last eight starts. The 23-year-old has struck out 126 and walked 59 in 107 innings at Triple-A. He will face Eury Perez (7-10, 3.72 ERA) in his first major-league appearance since June 2.

“There are so many things that we have control over in our career, and sometimes there are just lessons that have to be learned,” Tong said. “I’m just really excited to see the person that I’ve become out of it.”

Bo Bichette hit a three-run, go-ahead homer in the eighth inning Sunday as the Mets (65-78) beat the Giants 4-2 to take the series at Citi Field. Brett Baty also homered.

Christian Scott gave up two earned runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter. Kodai Senga worked a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save in as many tries. Johnluke Chaparro has more in a recap here.

Before the game, Tobias Myers was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and Jefry Yan was sent down. Myers (1-2) earned the win against the Giants – his first as a Met – with a scoreless inning.

Low-A St. Lucie ended its season in style. Dylan Carey hit a walk-off, three-run homer with one out in the 12th for an 11-10 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads. St. Lucie (58-72) tied it with a run in the ninth and a run in the tenth before Carey won it.

High-A Brooklyn (57-74) finished its year with a 6-5 loss to Frederick. Aidan Smith (Freddy Peralta trade) went 3-for-5 and stole his 25th base.

Joe Morgan, who managed the Red Sox from 1988-1991, died Saturday at 95, the team announced. Morgan was with the organization for 18 years and inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2006.

2016: The Mets sign outfielder Tim Tebow to a minor-league contract. The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback would make it as far as Triple-A Syracuse in 2019, where he hit four homers in 77 games and slashed .163/.240/.255.

1984: Dwight Gooden strikes out Ron Cey to set the National League rookie strikeout record at 228, passing Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander’s mark, which had stood since 1911. Gooden twirls a one-hit shutout and fans 11 in the 10-0 win and the Cubs’ only hit is on a Keith Moreland bouncer to third that Ray Knight couldn’t get out of his glove.

1976: Lee Mazzilli, a 1973 first-round pick (14th overall) out of Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, makes his MLB debut. He goes 0-for-1 after replacing John Milner in left field.

On This Date in 1986 Mets

The Mets sweep a doubleheader at home against the Padres. In Game 1, Gooden tosses a complete game, four-hitter in a 7-1 victory. Center fielder Stan Jefferson, who would be part of a trade for Padres starting center fielder Kevin McReynolds in the offseason, made his MLB debut, hit leadoff and went 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Kevin Mitchell, also sent to San Diego in the McReynolds deal, went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs,

The Mets prevail 6-5 in Game 2 and the teams combine for 24 hits, but none for extra bases. Wally Backman and Keith Hernandez have three hits apiece. Doug Sisk earns the win in relief of Sid Fernandez and Roger McDowell notches his 19th save. Future Met McReynolds went 1-for-8 in the doubleheader. The Mets are 92-44.
