The series finale against the San Francisco Giants mirrored many of the New York Mets’ games throughout the summer this season. The offense struggled for most of the afternoon while the pitching held steady. However, the Mets’ fortunes changed in the late innings as a surge in offense propelled them past the Giants, winning 4-2 and taking two out of three games from the last-place team in the National League West.
The Mets’ pitching was outstanding, starting with Christian Scott, who pitched into the fifth inning. He struck out seven batters while allowing four hits and two runs. Nate Lavender came in to finish the fifth inning with a strikeout. Jonathan Pintaro and Tobias Myers combined for three scoreless innings, and Kodai Senga secured the save in the ninth, marking his sixth save in six opportunities.
The Mets’ bullpen continues to impress, even after the Devin Williams injury and deadline subtractions. Notably, Tobias Myers became the 24th different Met to earn a win this season, setting a franchise record. He delivered an encouraging performance, striking out two in his one inning of work after facing challenges earlier in the season.
For most of the afternoon, the Mets’ offense was kept in check by Giants pitchers Cesar Perdomo and Joel Kuhnel, with A.J. Ewing being the only player to record multiple hits. However, the situation changed in the bottom of the eighth inning. After just missing a home run off the top of the left field wall the previous day, Brett Baty hit his ninth home run of the year, closing the gap to a one-run game.
Following Ewing’s single and an intentional walk to Juan Soto with two outs, Bo Bichette hit a no-doubter three-run home run to left field, his 16th of the season, sealing the victory against Giants reliever, and former Mets draft pick, Carson Seymour. Bichette’s home run traveled 412 feet, 107.5 mph off the bat.
Although the Mets are out of playoff contention, this series finale, along with some encouraging performances over the past few months, has given fans hope that this team can contend in the near future with the talent they possess.

Bo Bichette is showing that the Mets made the right investment in him, as he continued his strong second-half performance with a no-doubter three-run go-ahead home run against the Giants. In his last 30 games with the Mets, Bichette is hitting .296/.357/.539 with six home runs and 18 RBI.
On Deck
The Mets are right back at it as they fly out to Miami to take on the Marlins for a three-game series, starting Monday, on Labor Day. Jonah Tong (1-1, 3.60 ERA) makes his way back to the majors and looks to try to make his claim to stay with the big club. Eury Perez (7-10, 3.72 ERA) will look to try and stop the Mets on the mound for Miami. First pitch will take place at 1:10 pm ET and will be broadcast on SNY and Mets Radio 880.
