Francisco Alvarez clubbed two of New York’s five homers in a 10-6 victory over the Giants Friday. Mark Vientos, Francisco Lindor and Bo Bichette also went yard. It was the second straight game that the Mets (64-77) scored 10 runs.
Alvarez will turn 25 in November and it was the seventh multi-homer game of his career. The catcher with the most multi-homer games before turning 25 is Johnny Bench with eight, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com. Tied for second with Alvarez is Gary Carter. Alvarez has hit 15 homers in 99 games this year.
Nolan McLean (11-8) earned the win with six innings of two-run ball. He struck out seven and walked four. Nathan Cooper has a full game recap here.
Zac Thornton (3-4, 2.93 ERA) has not allowed more than three earned runs in 10 consecutive starts. He faces RHP Anthony Molina (2-0, 3.77 ERA) at 4:10 p.m. ET Saturday on SNY.

Wandy Asigen, the 17-year-old shortstop whom the Mets signed for $3.9 million in January after he backed out of a deal with the Yankees, came in at No. 10 on a Baseball America list of the Dominican Summer League’s top 35 MLB prospects of 2026 released Friday. “If he can cut down his miss rates, he has a chance to be an infielder who hits 30 or more home runs annually,” wrote BA’s Josh Norris.
Max Goodman of NJ.com reported that RHP Carson Wiggins, who the Mets selected in the first round of the draft this year out of the University of Arkansas, threw off a mound Friday for the first time since the draft, but won’t make his pro debut until next season. Goodman also reported that RHP Luke McNeillie (fifth round) and RHP Alex Petrovic (sixth round) will debut with St. Lucie Saturday.

Shohei Ohtani was held out of the lineup again Friday, the first time he’s missed back-to-back games this year. He has neck and right arm soreness, and manager Dave Roberts said he is hoping he can avoid the injured list, but it is a possibility.
